June 2008 Meeting Recapitulation PDF Print

Rosemarie Mesis, Co-Owner PI Magazine very well represented this monthly meeting’s sponsor: Professional Investigator Magazine (www.pimagazine.com) and PI Store (www.pistore.com). Free PI Magazine issues were given, many door-prizes (hats, shirts, books) donated and Rosemarie displayed our profession’s up-to-date publications written by the Worlds most respected practitioners and at discounted prices!

Guy Navarro, Chapter Secretary and Program Chair, introduced Tonya M. DeSa, FBI Special Agent (Newark). Agent DeSa made twenty-five minutes vanish as her presentation was that good. Agent DeSa and topic were a perfect, fascinating combination. Using a PowerPoint speed-lecture, Agent DeSa discussed Threat assessment, profiling, violence potential and the “Pathway to Violence”. Whether an individual poses a threat or just made a threat is a critical determination and Agent DeSa’s training is all about identifying suspects who have crossed that ‘fine line’.

Also working towards a PhD, Agent DeSa’s specialty is Child Abductions. Agent DeSa provided helpful hints regarding how to protect your children from cyber-predators. Statistics, circumstances and general relative issues were discussed and the audience absorbed the wisdom while pondering this most heinous crime.

A special Bergen County-sponsored charity event raffle was held. Three new Chapter Members enjoyed their first lunch . . . free. There was a solid Law Enforcement turnout and nobody walked away without having learned something. The Chapter now enjoys its hiatus . . . Members enjoying travels, cookouts and eventually returning September 4th (Monthly Meeting) and looking forward to the Chapter’s Annual Golf Outing (September 25).

Enjoy your summer!
