Good afternoon fellow members,
Thank you for your confidence in electing me as Chairman. I would also like to recognize the other members of our executive board, Guy Navarro, Vice Chair, Diane Greenwald, Secretary, Ron Hurley, CPP, Treasurer and Zoe Nelson, Assistant Secretary/Treasurer. I look forward to working with these outstanding people and you during my tenure.
I would like to thank our outgoing Chairman, Tom Whittles, for his inspired leadership for the past two years. Tom is a tough act to follow because of the great contributions and advancements he has made for our chapter under his tenure.
I would also like to recognize Tom for his new job as Assistant Regional Vice President for ASIS for our area. This is an important position with great responsibilities over many local chapters in North and West Jersey. In my opinion, it is a natural progression for Tom who will undoubtedly excel and bring his leadership abilities to the next level. I am sure that everyone in Chapter XIII wishes Tom the best luck in this new role.
As the new incoming Chairman I would like outline my agenda to all of our members. The goal of my tenure is three-fold; new members, education and law enforcement partnership.
One of the nagging issues for many ASIS Chapters is membership involvement, specifically, meeting attendance. With this in mind I intend to change our meeting protocol, by changing the times and locations of the meetings. After much discussion with leadership from other chapters and our own membership, I have found that evening meetings are preferable. Therefore, beginning in 2010, the majority of our meetings will begin at 6:00 PM.
In addition, the locations of the meeting will change. Our January meeting will be held in Biagio's in Paramus and our February meeting will be held in Michael Anthony's in Jersey City. I will be reaching out to our membership to host a meeting or arrange for a meeting place in, or near, their place of business or their law enforcement jurisdiction. Our meeting notices will be sent out to our members via our email contact list. All the information about the meeting will be contained in these emails. So, everyone will be receiving emails shortly regarding upcoming meetings. Also, check our web site for meeting information as well as information about our chapter. This web site will be updated regularly.
It is my belief that education and specifically security education, is one of the most important responsibilities of ASIS. As such, I have recently reached out to local colleges and universities to form a partnership with their staff and students. I intend to invite these students to our meeting and I would like to invite our membership to contribute to this effort with their time. Our members can earn CPE credits by offering their experience and expertise to young security students by becoming visiting lecturers and guest speakers at these colleges and universities. This is an excellent opportunity to give back to the community and at the same time earn valuable CPE credits. It truly is a win - win situation.
Lastly, I intend to reach out to the law enforcement community with the intention of having them become more involved in our Chapter. The signing of a Memorandum of Agreement between ASIS and the International Association of Chiefs of Police is the perfect time to forge this local partnership. I intend to begin by seeking to address the Bergen County Police Chiefs Association and asking them, and their officers, to become more involved in our efforts.
I would invite any our members to contact me if they are interested in any of the action items I have outlined for my tenure. I intend to work diligently to achieve these goals and I will not be able to accomplish them without your help. So, please become involved and contact me and let's work together for a successful and progressive Chapter.
Thank you,
Ray McGill, CPP
Chairman, Chapter XIII/ASIS Northern New Jersey
