$35.00Join us for our May “Lunch & Learn” Meeting
Our Meeting Presentation:
Bomb Threats: How Vulnerable are You?
As experience indicates, today no location is immune from a potentially dangerous explosives-related incident. Schools, houses of worship, retail stores, athletic venues, places of employment—in other words, any location where masses of people are gathered is a possible target. The objective of the perpetrator can be to disrupt operations, to cause damage to persons and property or to simply play a prank.
By the time that you have been notified that your facility has received a bomb threat, or worse, that a potential explosive device has been located on site, it is already too late in most cases!
John LaDuca, a current bomb squad commander and public safety consultant, will provide you with guidelines and background information that can be used to improve and enhance current emergency operations planning and preparation. Based on his insights and experiences, he will share and discuss practical and realistic approaches—not theory—that can be applied almost immediately. Among the discussion points:
• Critical explanation of improvised explosive devices.
• Update on current threats and recent case studies.
• Introduction of current and emerging best practices.
• Roles and responsibilities of team members
An open discussion and Q&A session will follow.
John LaDuca is a crisis management consultant and principal of STA-Precision, LLC., a security and public safety consulting firm. He is also an active, experienced police veteran and supervisor in Bergen County, N.J. with almost two decades of service. John has been a Bomb Technician for thirteen years and has been serving as the Bomb Squad Commander for the past six. He also serves as a certified police instructor and crime prevention practitioner. He previously served as a crisis negotiator and also commanded that unit for five years.
Shortly after the Virginia Tech school shooting in 2007, John was assigned to the newly established police sub-station at Bergen Community College where he played a pivotal role in the creation of the college’s all-hazards emergency operations plan, which included it’s active shooter response and bomb threat management procedures, among others. He also established community policing and crime prevention programs on campus, assisted the administration with Clery Act compliance and facilitated various training courses for campus security and staff.
