NNJ13 Represented at Westchester, NY

From L.to R.: Vice-Chairman Robert Fulton, Westchester Chapter Chairman Charles Patterson, Karen Haas, Westchester-Hudson Valley Chapter of IFMA, and Seminar Speaker Kevin Mellot of ERASE Enterprises

NNJ Chapter XIII was represented at the ASIS Westchester County Chapter #35 meeting on Thursday, February 16, 2017.  Chapter Vice-Chair Robert Fulton attended the meeting of our sister chapter in NY, which was held in collaboration with the Westchester-Hudson Valley Chapter of the International Facility Managers Association (IFMA).

The meeting was held at the Reckson Metro Center Auditorium in White Plains, NY, where the guest speaker was Kevin Mellot, of ERASE Enterprises.  Mr. Mellot, who has over 42 years of experience in the field of public safety, is an internationally recognized expert in public safety and special investigations. Mr. Mellot gave a 90 minute presentation on Security Exposure Assessment, which provided some valuable insights into everyday operations of facilities, employees and some risky business internet practices.

Kevin Mellot has provided training for thousands in industry and government as well as having been selected as the lead instructor for numerous special projects for the United States Military and Law Enforcement Agencies. His presentation was both enlightening and informative.  Our chapter hopes to provide similar seminars such as the one presented by our sister NY chapter.

Vice-Chairman Fulton’s attendance at this meeting was part of the chapter’s outreach program to foster stronger relationships with the other chapters in the region as well as with other similar organizations.

2017 Kickoff Meeting A Success!

Our first meeting of 2017 was a great success!  The meeting, which was held on February 2nd at Redd’s Restaurant in Carlstadt, was well attended with representatives from our sister chapters in Westchester NY and Central New Jersey.

After dining on an excellent buffet dinner, our attendees listened intently as our guest speaker, Brian Mc Donough, CPP, CHPA, spoke on the rigors of public hospital security and dealing with public access to a private facility.  In addition to our regular chapter membership and members from other chapters, we also had guests from several of the area hospitals who came to listen to this important presentation, and the vigorous discussion which followed  Following Brian’s presentation, we did a little presenting of our own…

.

As a token of the Chapter’s appreciation for his participation, Chapter Chairperson, Kaycee Cavicchia, and Vice-Chair Robert Fulton presented Brian with a plaque. Following the presentation, the meeting concluded with an extensive networking session before we parted for the evening.

Some of the takeaways received by the members were extremely positive.  There was positive feedback on the change in the meeting location and time.  There was also great reviews on the food served, and finally the presentation received many accolades.  All in all, we believe that the Chapter is off to a great start for 2017, and we intend to keep on building a great itinerary of interesting and educational events for our Chapter.

Our next event will be our Annual Security Symposium, which will also serve as our March Meeting.  The symposium will be held in collaboration with the Security Studies Department of New Jersey City University on Friday, March 10, 2017.  Information on the symposium can be found on the main page of this web site.

We encourage continued feedback from our members.  You can offer your own feedback and suggestions by e-mailing us at Secretary@asisnnj.org, or going to one of our social media sites on Facebook, Twitter or LinkedIn.  Members are also encouraged to take our chapter survey by going to:

https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/XBHMTR5 and entering the password: ASISNNJ2017 (All Caps)

Give us your feedback on what you’d like to see from the Chapter in 2017!
